Nintendo Switch: The Next Phase in Console Gaming:
(Before I continue, let me state for the record that this is not a paid promotion.)
I recently attended the launch of the Nintendo Switch here in South Africa, Johannesburg. The event showcase some of the best that this extremely powerful and versatile device had to offer both the general public and the avid gamer alike! I was extremely impressed!
Before you get all excited, here’s a bit more about this revolutionary little console:
What’s In the Initial Nintendo Switch Package:
The initially product offering of the Nintendo Switch should keep you busy and equipped for ages without the need to go out and buy more attachments and technology to improve your experience (Something games and DLC could learn from Nintendo) You get everything you need!
You get the Joy-Con (L) and Joy-Con (R) controllers (The Red and Blue Controllers), a Joy-Con grip (to which two Joy-Con are attached and used as one controller), a set of Joy-Con wrist straps, a Nintendo Switch dock (which holds the main console and connects it to a TV), a HDMI cable and an AC adapter.
This is everything you need! If you don’t have a TV screen though (Please get one), but you can enjoy everything the Nintendo Switch offers on this basic set up. BUT! The device really shines when including up to seven more players in one game! This you can do by syncing all your devices together it seems.
A direct quote from the Nintendo President:
“Nintendo Switch is a brand-new kind of home gaming system that offers a wide variety of play modes, We will introduce the world to new experiences made possible by the unique characteristics of the Nintendo Switch hardware and the Joy-Con.”
What about the Games?
The initial gaming selection on the Nintendo Switch seems very typical of Nintendo games, but promises to grow with support from; Activision, Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, Ubisoft and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Because of the support from these gaming publishers I’m confident that we’ll see top level games crossing over to the platform that will include shooters, competitive games, sports and racing of the kind we find on a console like Playstation or Xbox.
Some of the initial games you’ll find in stores include: EA FIFA, The Elder Scrolls, NBA 2K, Minecraft, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon2 and a Console exclusive: ARMS (Played this, so much fun!)
Do You Buy It?
Yes, unlike other consoles of a similar type like the old Wii platform, or new consoles such as Playstation 4 or the Xbox One, the Nintendo Switch offers you everything all those platforms can and is still able to fit in a backpack for travelling or entertainment on the go.
The games don’t loose their experience or quality with the cross of the platform that I’ve seen so far, and with the support of all the top publishers, we’ll be sure to be getting all our favourite games without missing too many (maybe some exclusives). It’s not just for the family, like the Wii tried to be, it’s for the family, the gamer, the eSports Pro. It can go anywhere and be anything.
All this, for apparently only R5000.
This is just a quick look at what the Nintendo Switch as a purchase console, Ill be publishing a few more stories this week on what I thought of the console and where I think it’s going, also maybe some things you need to know before you get it.
I want to know your thoughts on the Nintendo Switch! So Comment!
